Atwater Crossing is a multi-use creative complex located in Los Angeles's Atwater Village. Spanning five industrial buildings across two linear city blocks along the city's main train line, ATX houses an array of creative offices and studios, artisanal manufacturing facilities, locations for photography and film shoots, and theaters showcasing original productions.
ATX Kitchen, the restaurant at the heart of the complex, is often activated by public programs, events, and workshops. It's a place where artists and workers of all kinds gather for meetings and celebrations over good food and drink.
RADAR designed the conversion of a loading dock into an outdoor dining room with this community spirit in mind, creating multiple enormous openings between the indoor and outdoor spaces. A new fixed awning overhead includes bands of corrugated skylights, which create alternating stripes of sunlight and shadow below.
