Avenue 28 ADU

This recently completed, ground-up 1-bedroom ADU is located in the northeast LA neighborhood of Lincoln Heights in a historic preservation zone. Originally commissioned during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a safe place for the client’s mother to age in place, it is informed by universal accessibility principles. The double-gable roof nods to the Victorian-era house in front which dates to the 1880s. Other key features include wide passageways, a moveable kitchen island, curbless shower and lavatory area with room for an attendant when necessary, and a generous floor plan with vaulted ceilings and north-facing skylights.
